Makey Makey Makes Coding Fun

My Students

I am a technology coach at a Title I school in Chesapeake Virginia. More than half of our students come from low-income households. Unfortunately, this means that they are at a disadvantage. They have less access to technology and materials at home. They also tend to have less background knowledge and experience, which is one of the major indicators of success!

My goal is to do everything I can to help my school and its students learn and grow to become all that they can be.

I know that if given the right opportunities and resources we can prepare our students for 21st-century careers.

My Project

The Makey Makey is an electronic invention kit for all ages! The Makey Makey allows you to take everyday objects and combine them with the internet. Using the alligator clips attached to any conductive material you can control the keyboard of your computers, such as the space bar, arrow keys, and left-click of the mouse.

The sky is the limit when it comes to Makey Makey! It can be connected to virtually anything, as long as it can conduct a little bit of electricity; you can connect bananas and play the piano or connect alphabet soup and type a message. Our students will use the Makey Makey to practice math and literacy skills, while also learning about computers and coding!
