Makey Makey Kits for Fifth Grade Inventors Will Transform Us

My students need 3 Makey Makey kits so they can become inventors. Whatever the student selects will become a computer keyboard. These kits can be re-used over and over.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Kugelman's classroom raised $336

This project is fully funded

My Students

Each year I introduce Rube Goldberg's wacky inventions to the class. My students create a contraption that will turn the page of a book using simple machines. Now they will have the chance to change anything they want into a keyboard with Makey Makey.

I teach a creative and lively group of twenty-nine fifth grade students in sunny Southern California.

Our school is a Title I school that is filled with a wonderful mix of students from many cultures, including Mexico, China, the Philippines, and Central America. Our school won a California Distinguished School Award because we integrate the arts and technology into our academic lessons. My classroom is lively, collaborative, and my students are excited to learn, explore, and think. I teach a mix of students who are English language learners, students with autism, and highly gifted students. Everyone pushes themselves to achieve at their level. When you are surrounded with motivated, creative students, all students begin to grow and achieve.

My Project

I have requested three Makey Makey kits so my students can learn how to be inventors. They can use Makey Makey to transform the desks in our classroom into an electric piano. Or, with Makey Makey they can design a keyboard made of fresh fruit, and write a message to the classroom. Becoming an inventor can seem daunting to students at first, but with Makey Makey there is a fun element of "I can do anything!" that will help open my students' minds up so they begin thinking OUT of the box. As part of our Inventor Unit, my students will also be creating an invention that helps protect a raw egg as it is dropped from a second story window, and a Rube Goldberg project that will somehow make a book page be turned. Makey Makey is a perfect addition to our inventor unit, as it will help my students grow inside and out!

Your donation to this project means that all of my students, from my students with autism to my highly gifted learners, can successfully become an inventor.

Each student will have their own days of exploration and presentation of their Makey Makey inventions, so all students will be winners. Help my classroom continue to grow and flourish! Education happens all day long, in all ways. Once a student's mind is open to exploration, growth in all areas of learning occurs!
