My Students
We are a STEM school that does not forget about the arts. Our philosophy is project-based learning, which has students exploring a curriculum that is real and relevant. We strive to learn through a hands-on experience where students realize that what they are learning is relevant and not just "something they will need to know some day."
Our students are eager learners and experience an education that is place-based with community partners to foster a passion and curiosity for STEM disciplines.
My Project
We are going to build our classroom makerspace to include some challenges and projects that students can work on by using the Raspberry Pi, Makey Makey, and Makerspace books. It is a great way for students to get experience, inspiration, learn, and have structure as they make and invent.
As important as the books will be for challenging and guiding students, the Engino, Qubits, and K'Nex will be for students to design and create all new products with their innovative ideas.
We will use other models to see how some companies have built simple tabletop robots, then see how we can design our own. However, the versatility of these items will allow students to dive into their creative minds and design things they want and need.
The art supplies will give students creative license and highlight how important it is to include Art with STEM. Art, like all other subject areas, is not just a once a week class, it is all around them, and an extremely valuable activity for students. Students need to have the opportunity to incorporate art into projects. The art set includes multiple forms of media for students to use and experiment with in the makerspace.
