My students use the library makerspace as a place to create. The space is used as an extension of the classroom, to innovate what the curriculum inspires, to realize what books and imagination dream and we need supplies to keep it going. It is important that in this space all materials are provided for equity. Cardboard, scissors, tape and pipe cleaners become the building blocks of engineering design. Creativity, critical thinking and collaboration are all soft skills needed and practiced in this space. These students what some people regard as trash or cast away materials and create the next vaccine, space voyaging vessel or water filter.
