I am the school librarian of 250 students in a small, rural high school. My school is part of the Connecticut Alliance District program which supports the 36 lowest-performing districts in the state as they establish reforms to increase student performance and to close achievement gaps. My students are passionate, resilient, kind, and thoughtful young people. Our incredibly caring staff works endlessly to challenge our students academically, support them emotionally, and celebrate their successes inside and outside the classroom. It is a great privilege to be their school librarian!
In order to encourage students to develop STEAM skills and become enthusiastic, skilled, and creative problem-solvers, I would like to provide students with a makerspace cart to use with our Cricut machine, button-maker, and other supplies.
A makerspace cart will allow students take full advantage of our library's makerspace and become active creators and innovators of products and information rather than passive consumers.
