This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title One school in a city school district. In our public city school. Many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving, and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for eighteen years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
The school library started a small Makerspace this year and kids did not get to experiment fully before the year abruptly ended. We are requesting tools to do resin art and turn scrap wood into cutting boards by capturing nature's treasures in resin. Things like the changing leaves of autumn to seashells, bugs and pine cones which are normally discarded, will become a part of the boards encased in resin for all eternity. Other items that are typically considered refuse like corks and such can also be captured.
Scholars will learn to create, make and innovate at the same time as they learn to reduce, reuse/repurpose and recycle.
Help us to teach design and innovation as well as good citizenship skills.
