This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Help me give my students Legos, Bristle Blocks, and Tinker Toys to inspire their creativity!
We are 1st graders in a Title I school in a low-income, diverse community.
Despite the many hardships and struggles my students bring with them each day they come to school excited and ready to learn.
Our classroom is full of thinkers and makers!
We are engineers, scientists, artists, mathematicians, musicians, inventors, and creators!
We need basic building materials like LEGO bricks, Bristle Blocks and Tinker Toys to allow us to tinker and invent! We love going to our STEAM class each week but our supplies are limited.
We would appreciate your support in helping us fill our classroom with these building supplies so we can continue to be innovators and inventors!
My Project
Kids are spending way too much time using technology and on devices. Our goal is to go back to basics with some building materials from our childhood. In my experience, when given the option between technology and good old fashioned toys many students in our STEAM classes have been choosing the latter.
According to Peter Gray, a research psychologist from Boston College, “Playing with other children, away from adults, is how children learn to make their own decisions, control their emotions and impulses, see from others' perspectives, negotiate differences with others, and make friends."
LEGO bricks, Bristle Blocks, and Tinker Toys will give our students more opportunities for unstructured play.
