My Students
Have you ever had the disappointment of needing something replaced in order to use your favorite appliance or piece of technology. We love our Makerbot, but need some supplies to keep it running.
Our students are in an area that is increasingly being impacted by the economy.
Most are very hardworking families, working multiple jobs so that they can stand on their own. Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it, and often have to move in with relatives after a job loss.
The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Many of the staff spend hundreds of their own dollars yearly to provide materials for students and motivational rewards. They continually go above and beyond to help their students.
My Project
Our students are so excited to have a Makerbot 3D printer. They love watching it as it prints out projects. We have found that the build plate can be easily burnt or warped. The projects also come off the build plate better if the plate is covered with painter's tape. The supply that comes with the Makerbot did not last long. Leveling the build plate is essential for the build process. The process requires using a very thin card just the correct thickness in order to level it, however the card gets worn after a few times the process is done. We need tools to make sure we have the correct thickness of material to level the build plate.
We have a team in our building working with the students to utilize the Makerbot. These materials will really help the Makerbot to be able to keep running. The students are disappointed when they find out we have to wait to build projects because we need more materials.
Technology is very important in today's educational process.
Our students have the opportunity to use a 3D printer. The week we got our printer, a local teen printed an artificial hand for a child without a hand, using a similar 3D printer. We want to keep our Makerbot running and functioning the way it needs to so that their imaginations can help them create new projects.
