Our Student Council is trying to raise money because they know our school would LOVE Makerbot 3D printer.
Our students range from 4-10 years old.
Our school is part of a vibrant community with many opportunities. Unfortunately our science curriculum doesn't currently let students make strong connections to the outside world. Student Council is hoping to get our school access to technology that they currently are not able to experience.
Our school takes an inquiry approach to learning science content. With a 3D printer, students could plan, design and create products that would help our school, the community and the world.
My Project
3D printing is here to stay! It is going to be used in a so many career fields including medical, design, manufacturing, and architecture, ect. I want my students to have some basic experience with this new technology. The uses are really unlimited. The technology is also affordable. Once we have a 3D printer, the cost for the filament needed to print is quite reasonable.
We plan to use the printer both within the school day and with an after school enrichment program so that students will have more opportunities to experience the printer.
Students will have the opportunity to create their own lesson materials to assist in their learning and even share their work with other students in the room or in other classes.
Instead of completing worksheets or using base 10 blocks to learn math, students will be able to mold and change an unlimited amount of interactive materials at their fingertips. For example, my students will be creating and adding fraction strips together to view equivalent fractions, turning and moving three-dimensional prisms to find volume, and creating containers to compare and convert different units of measurement.
