As the local gifted and talented teacher, I teach about thirty students in six different schools. Some schools are fly-in only with limited access to technology and twenty-first century learning applications. These students crave the chance to create, tinker, and explore.
All of my students have the need for enrichment beyond what books and the normal school day can provide.
The portable Maker Space would allow me to travel to the remote locations with a full arsenal of invigorating tools.
I am creating a portable Maker Space where students can design, create, explore, and learn from their mistakes. Students from sparely populated villages will have an opportunity to experience the Maker Movement. The Maker Space will be used during the school day and for an after school clubs.
All of our students will work on their critical and creative thinking skills, build resiliency, practice collaboration, and most importantly, have fun.
Students will use their imaginations to design and create virtually anything with the K'Nex blocks. The all white blocks make students place the focus on size and position rather than color. A K’Nex kit offers endless possibilities for student exploration. These are somewhat flexible, allowing movement in the creation.
The 3D Doodler Pen is a great way to introduce students to three-dimension design. This is a fun and concrete way to teach two and three-dimensional shapes. The pen is more kid-friendly than a three-dimensional printer, hands-on with immediate results. Students will be able to design something and use the pen to make it a reality.
