Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students love to learn, they thrive when developing and applying new skills, and they are resilient. We are an urban, low-income district, and the majority of our students come from hardworking immigrant families, many of whom speak a language other than English at home. Every student has access to the books, resources and opportunities in our elementary library media center, where they can have explore topics that interest them and participate in learning experiences that motivate them!

The beanbag chairs and flex-space premium floor seats I am requesting will provide more students with much more comfortable seating options than the old, hard wooden chairs we currently have in the library media center.

Comfortable seats will help students to focus on the task at hand, whether they are reading independently, having a group discussion about a research topic, or working on a STEM design challenge. These chairs also encourage students to come to the library to relax and read!

Any tools and resources that motivate students are valuable to have in a collaborative learning space like our library media center. These seats will motivate students to do their best, and also make them feel comfortable in the library.

Our amazing elementary complex library serves 2000+ students in four schools, and as I continue to cultivate it into a 21st century library media center and learning hub where students can collaborate and learn, I am constantly working to update the materials and resources that students have access to!
