Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten in a high-poverty area. Many of my students come in with very little prior knowledge of numbers, but they are bursting with enthusiasm for learning as much as possible. Approximately half of my students are English Learners.
My students love to learn about numbers. In Kindergarten, we teach the students to count, recognize, and represent numbers to 30. However, we do not always have the supplies and manipulative's to provide them with a variety of hands-on experiences for practice at these lifelong basic skills.
My students need number activities such as sequencing puzzles, a "Count & Link" game, a "Fishing for Numbers" game, a magnetic board, and magnetic numbers and counters. With these materials, my students will have daily opportunities to practice what they know and deepen their understanding of numbers and their meaning.
Your help will provide my students with daily hands-on learning experiences whose value will last a lifetime. Help me let these eager learners know how much they "count"!
More than half of students from low‑income households
