My Students

I will be a first year teacher and have not yet officially met my students for the 2018-2019 school year. However, I have been able to visit the two Kindergarten classrooms and saw several of the students that will be with me next year.

I recognized right away how much my future students loved to move about while they learned.

Despite not having the comfortable flexible seating options the students were reading at their desks, on the ground, curled up next to the teacher's desk. They recognized the importance of learning in a multitude of ways.

I was finally able to see my classroom this summer and was welcomed by two walls of windows and endless space. However, it was an old resource room and has very little kid-friendly, growth-promoting furniture and materials for my active learners.

My Project

The materials will be used to create an environment of creativity and curiosity! Right now my new classroom is very empty with simple desks and one group table. Learning needs a unique a space as the learners. This project will help me create a classroom that has flexible seating so as to best meet the diverse learning styles of each student.

Flexible seating promotes high engagement and accountability!

When students have the choice to take their learning to a place that most meets their needs then true learning can happen. This project includes a mobile couch for our up-and-coming classroom library, bean bag chairs for those independent readers, and much more!

I will use these flexible seating options to promote the love or reading my students have while also meeting their individual needs. Some of my students are more tactile learners and would do better reading on one of the carpet "floor seats" that give them plenty of space to wiggle.
