My Students

I teach in Brooklyn, New York. I am the only monolingual person in my classroom. Most students are currently English language learners or recently tested out. Many of my students are immigrants themselves or first-generation Americans. I also have numerous students with IEPs. Many of the families come from below the poverty line.

My Project

My school building is under construction. As a result, there is no schoolyard for children to have recess in. Because of COVID protocols in New York City, my school can't eat lunch in the cafeteria, because there's not enough space to social distance. My eager 5th graders were so excited to return to in-person class this year but find themselves in the classroom all day long.

I am asking for some fun games to help them socialize and have fun at lunch.

It would be a great way to help improve social-emotional learning.
