My Students
Despite not having much, my students come to school with lights in their eyes. For some, I know that school is the best part of their day. It's their attitude that keeps me coming back and giving it my all. I teach at a Title I school in a high poverty area of Florida. The majority of the students in my classroom have English as their second language. We are all working together to learn new material while learning English as well!
My Project
"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
These science manipulatives will provide the foundation to many science concepts and allow students to explore and expand their knowledge with higher order of thinking.
We need mineral collections, a Force & Motion Activity Tub, a Life Cycle Sequencing Kit and other materials. My students will be able to use these manipulatives to grasp a science concept or to problem solve and then use them to explain the concept to a friend!
This grant will provide science supplies that will be utilized throughout the entire fourth grade year. The materials will give important hands-on learning that will encourage a deeper understanding of concepts such as plant and animal life cycles, provide an exciting look at force and motion, and help demonstrate the properties of rocks and minerals. This opportunity to investigate using manipulatives provides an opportunity that cannot be presented in any other way, verbal or written. These fourth graders need the interaction with these hands-on materials.
