A shelf of books is a wonderland for students. Each book holds an infinite number of things for them to discover. Some of the books are like an old friend – you go to them whenever you can to enjoy time together. But what if you can’t find them!?
This school year, I have had the pleasure of working with and teaching 25 very eager second-grade students.
Most of the students had never been a part of a class with more than 12 students. Due to cuts in the district budget, all of the students were put together in my classroom and I couldn't imagine not being the teacher of a single one of them!
We live in a rural area where most families enjoy living simple lives. Many of our students speak English as a second language (Dutch as a first language) and need increased support in reading and language arts.
My Project
I am requesting 24 book bins in four colors. These bins are vibrant, sturdy, and durable. They are just the right size for my students to handle. The different colors will help us keep reading levels and themes more organized. I am also requesting labels for the bins. The labels will help my students find the books they are looking for. They will also help my readers return their books to just the right place for another student to find and enjoy!
Could you imagine going into a library where the books are not organized in a way you can find them?
Help me organize the books in our classroom for my students to find and enjoy for years to come!
