My Students
I work at a Title One school filled with culturally diverse learners; in my classroom, you will find Asian, African-American and Hispanic students with unique personalities and various learning styles and levels. My students' reading levels are emergent to developing.
My students are able to receive a free breakfast and lunch regardless of income; many of them also receive free backpacks filled with foods to take home on the weekends.
The children travel from a variety of neighborhoods to get to school daily with some families walking as far as 30 minutes just to bring their children to school. Many of them don't have much, but they do have a passion for learning.
My Project
Students must be able to communicate clearly and effectively to function in society; the ability to do so is a foundation of life. The resources requested are necessary in making Writing and Reading FUNdamental so that students are able to achieve their goal of becoming effective communicators, problem solvers, and critical thinkers.
With the implementation of these resources during guided practice, guided reading, and at stations, we'll see an increase in their classroom assignment and state test scores throughout the school year as they work towards mastering all Reading and Writing standards.
Overall, the resources requested will assist in improving not only scores in class and state tests, but will also build their confidence and improve their attitude in their approach to mastering the material.
