My Students

There are over 50 million children attending public schools in the United States this year. While that number is staggering, the type of education each student receives dramatically differs depending on where they live and the type of family they were born into. These students attend an elementary school in a rural area of North Carolina. Close to 75% of the students at my school receive free or reduced price lunch. Despite their backgrounds, I want all of my students to feel successful in school. I teach in a Title I school where many of my students are already at a disadvantage compared to their wealthier peers. Despite this, they are eager to learn and I believe that they deserve an equal chance to do so. I want each of them to know that they are somebody important and will make a real impact on this world!

It is my dream that my students come to school eager to learn each day and are disappointed that their time is up when the dismissal bell rings.

Having amazing books to read helps ensure success both in and out of the classroom!

My Project

I have always been an avid reader, ever since I was young enough to sit up on my own. Now, as a librarian, I get to surround myself with books. Reading aloud gives me a chance to share my love for reading and it also allows my students to enjoy listening to some fun books they might not be able to read on their own yet. I want to add books to my library that have characters like the students at my school! I want each and every student to find a book that they fall in love with and having a variety to choose from is imperative!

In today's world, more and more kids are putting devices in their hands instead of books--this is a huge problem.
