The 5th graders at my school come from an upper middle class neighborhood whose parents value education. The students are pushed to complete a 40 book challenge in their 5th grade year at our school. For students who haven't yet found "the book" yet that ignites their passion for reading, this challenge is very difficult. I do have some avid readers in my class who helped me put this book list together of books they loved to read. I hope that having more of a selection of books in class, I will have a better chance of reaching my reluctant readers.
My Project
My students are working on reading 40 books each with 150 pages. The books that I have selected are books that my students have requested, that they are interested in and would be motivated to read to help them reach their goal.
Reading can take a student anywhere they want to go, to help them escape reality and in the future.
My goal this year is to have at least 50% of the class to reach that 40 book challenge the school has given. These books will help me reach that goal and to help them reach their goals later in life.
