My Students
Our 25 first grade students are made up of students with special needs and general education students. Most come from homes with parents who speak another language. Our amazing new class of 6-year-olds have not been in a classroom for the past 6 months due to Covid-19. Now they are entering school for another year during these unprecedented times, and have to adapt to new norms.
My Project
Unprecedented times call for unprecedented needs. Our current classroom setup will no longer enable our students to learn and play while following our new guidelines. Our kids will no longer be able to interact with their peers, especially for activities such as "choice time," where they would normally share toys and materials.
It is so important for us to be able to give them materials that would help them explore their creative sides individually, because most have been in a one-bedroom apartment for the past 6 months, many without toys.
These young children are going to be asked to sit in one seat all day; to make that bearable, being able to move in their seats will help immensely. Our students will also not be able to share materials as they have done in the past. To help them organize their materials for individual use, we would like to color code bins for each student to store their materials safely.
