My Students
Last year we began a new tradition in our school by creating a student-led morning news team. These students arrive at school early every morning and stream our morning announcements live on YouTube. They prepare their own scripts, create their own backgrounds in OBS, and plan and conduct their own special reports. They accomplished a great deal in their first year and are preparing to make their second year even better.
As we begin our second year together as a middle school news team, we are hoping for better equipment to help us produce a higher quality program.
The equipment that we used our first year together was either equipment we found in our building or what was given to us. The news team students took the tools they were given and accomplished great things with them. They streamed the news live every day that we had school, and when the school shut down in the spring due to COVID-19, the students continued the program daily streaming news from their own homes! The dedication that these students have given to the growth of this school news program is inspiring!
My Project
Our morning news program is entirely student-led and student-created. These dedicated students create their own scripts, do the reporting, and make the technical elements work, both on-camera and behind the scenes. They stream live at 8:02 every single morning. The camera they use was donated to us but we do not have a microphone or monopod for the camera. Adding this equipment will allow the news team to take their reports to a whole new level!
Audio and video quality are extremely important in a student news program and our news team is committed to making this program as good as it can be.
They started this journey last year with some donated equipment, but with a few new tools they will be able to accomplish much, much more this year!
