This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine trying to engage pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first, and second graders during an English Language Arts assembly! My biggest challenge is to get kids excited about reading and writing.

I am a teacher at a Title I school.

Most of the students that attend my school are English language learners or special needs students. Most of the student are performing below expected grade level. To support our students academic needs, the school has a weekly assembly that is centered around ELA and Math skills and strategies.

My Project

Every other week I host an ELA assembly for each grade. During the assembly, I go over things like setting goals, developing good study habits, and practice ELA strategies, using an online educational program. To increase student motivation and participation I have classes compete against each other or play boys verses girls. I plan to use the dry erase easel and markers that I am requesting as a score board, and the stickers as an incentive.

The fullfillment of this project will help me to make the assembly fun, engaging, and would provide an opportunity to reinforce literacy skills teachers cover in the classrooms.

The resources will help me run the assembly smoothly and get the students to actively participate.
