Help me give my students an engaging online class by providing me with a round light, white board, and manipulatives that I can use to demonstrate math concepts as I teach to a screen full of happy faces.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a group of bright, kindhearted, silly kids. When they first arrived to my classroom they each had their share of social emotional issues that affected their motivation to learn. As the year continued, we worked together with our school administrators, our counselor, and peers to help my students build their motivation and help families cope with their specific issues. After a few months, my students loved coming to school, loved participating, and loved being around each and every person in our classroom.
Now my students and I have been thrown a curve ball.
We have been thrown into this idea of remote learning. For some this idea may be not far from what they already were doing in their classrooms. For us this is a completely new journey.
My students are English language learners. They come from low income homes. Most were without internet or computers at home. Luckily, the school has started a technology lending program, and some internet companies have offered discounts to them. Using email, Google Classroom, doing virtual meetings, and other google apps. has been a frustrating learning experience for everyone. But, my families have shown patience and eagerness to continue in this.
My Project
Right now I am working on a laptop in my kitchen. I use a small white board that belongs to my daughter. This is why I am asking for a large whiteboard and markers. The kitchen has the largest table work space I can use. So, for now it is the best place for my planning and teaching. But, the light is not the brightest. This is why I am asking for a round light. I have been using my daughter to hold my phone when I need to showcase a specific document or when I have them follow a drawing that I am doing. That is why I ask for the light with a cellphone holder. The glasses would just make my vision less tired from looking at a screen so much.
The materials I am asking for are essential to making my teaching seem as close to what it was in the classroom.
The students would be able to receive a better lesson, that is easier to see. And they would not miss our classroom as much if the scenery around me looks more like a classroom.
