I teach at a magnet school focusing on the sciences as well as the arts. The students here are very interested in science and love to ask questions and design experiments to gather deeper understanding. Many of my students come from underprivileged homes because our school is a Title I school. They are very interested in gardening, engineering and design, and keeping the school environmentally friendly.
Combining our school's themes of art and sciences with projects that focus on engineering and design, is crucial for the vision and mission of our school.
My Project
These materials will help our students who are reluctant readers grab something that they will not want to put down. Some of my students have a really hard time sticking with text through the whole book. These ultra engaging and comical texts should help them stay super focused during self selected independent reading time.
When students spend more time engaged in text, they develop greater skills as readers.
If these books can keep them engaged at independent reading time, that adds to the time these students are spending in text and helping them gain a love for reading. The level of excitement that a new book brings these students is unmatched!
