This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the city of Camden. The city of Camden is known as one of the poorest cities in the nation, whose public schools are well below the national and state standards. In order to further embed the college dreams in our youth and bring up the state standard, I believe it starts with books and well-rounded early childhood experience. It is my mission, in collaboration with our parents and the community, is to strive to provide children an excellent education in a safe and positive learning environment where they are prepared with the critical skills to reach their full potential for a world yet to be imagined. My students are 4-5-year-old students who are thriving academically and socially due to our curriculum. Creative Curriculum is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that promotes exploration and discovery as a way of learning, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills. With this curriculum, my students will be ready for elementary school.
My Project
The best part of this project is knowing that we, as a community, can provide books to the students and families in Camden, New Jersey. This Free Library can help eliminate cost and transportation barriers that make reading inaccessible for many. The Free Library will be placed in an area where parents can comfortably access the books without judgment or worries. Once the kit is set up, the organization Book Smiles will help replenish the books throughout the school year.
Every child and person deserves to read, obtain books, and enjoy the magic of a library.
