My students need games and resources to make math learning fun to inlcude a Math Mega-Fun Card Game, a Thunderbolt Run Board Game and several books with math reproducibles.
Proficient. That is where my students are required to be at the end of their 5th grade year. It may sound normal to some, but when they come to you with huge learning gaps and only knowing 65% of what they were supposed to have learned in 4th grade, proficiency is a huge jump for my students.
My students are a fun loving group of 5th graders in a low socioeconomic part of town.
They love coming to class and getting to learn about their world around them. My students are very artistic and love learning with hands on activities. We are an A+ school which means we try to incorporate the arts, (visual, musical, theater) in to our classroom units. I believe that worksheets are not the best way to reach my class.
My Project
These resources include a game to help the students learn their multiplication and division facts, a book of ideas for math projects using visual arts, and many books of brain teasers to increase their problem solving skills. We use the Everyday Math Curriculum and while I love it for our whole group learning, my class will benefit greatly from these resources during our small group center time in Math.
I want my students to be successful learners and part of that is having confidence.
With the access to these materials my students will be able to become the confident math learners I always tell them they should be.
