My Project

The notebooks allow my scholars to brainstorm and jot down any thoughts they may have and the pencils allow my students to go straight to work as they often forget to come to class with a pencil. I know in conducting this writers' workshop that I am not only building future authors, but I'm also building my students' confidence.

Many of my students come in at the beginning of the year and believe that their stories are not important, but by the end of this unit, they are able to pick up a pencil and tell their stories or the stories of the people that surround them.

Maya Angelou was once able to pick up a pencil to tell her own story, and in my classroom, I continue this legacy by having my students write stories about their own lives.
