This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a low-income district in Phoenix, Arizona. My students are passionate, positive, and always pushing their limits! I am very proud to be their teacher! I look forward to each day I spend with them.
We are big on character education in the classroom; from using the "Bucket Filling" teachings to community service on campus.
I believe my students are capable of anything they set their minds to. Growth is important in the classroom and my students are always setting personal goals to become their best selves.
My Project
I have been teaching during this pandemic and have had a difficult time with the transitions and changes within the profession. I was online until March and have recently begun teaching in person and online. I have many students that have math anxiety; they are nervous about sharing, showing work or explaining their process. I experienced the same thing growing up and had a difficult time loving math as a person. I have had to use positive self talk and unlearn my own behaviors that kept me from thriving in math. I do not want any of my scholars to go through school thinking they can't be a good math student. I want my students to embrace math and understand its importance, as well as develop confidence in this area. My scholars are capable of anything, and I would love to take this course to learn strategies that help them flourish!
