My Students
My students need fun and exciting math activities and games for math center time.
I teach second grade in a Title 1 school in rural Oklahoma with a 62% free and reduced lunch population.
My school is a Pre-K through 3rd grade public elementary school. Many of my students do not perform at grade level in math. It is because of this that some of them find math frustrating and have developed a negative attitude toward math. By incorporating different types of math games in my math curriculum, it is my hope that students will begin to excel and develop a love of math.
My Project
This year I have begun incorporating math centers into my math curriculum. My students enjoy being able to spend part of each math class "playing" games during center time, but they do not realize it reinforces the math skills I have been teaching. Unfortunately, because I am on a limited budget, I do not have many activities to rotate through my centers. My students are good-natured about the limited center activities, but it is my wish to provide a wider variety of center activities that touch a greater array of math concepts. My wish list includes a number of math games that will allow students to enjoy practicing critical math skills.
Providing math instruction in a variety of ways will enhance every child's understanding and skill level in math.
Please help me provide my students with activities that encourage and reward increased math understanding with fun.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
