Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classes consist of 32 seventh grade students living in Bronx, NY. Many of my students are English Language Learners. My students are hard-working and want to take full advantage of learning. My students live in lower socio-economic areas and sometimes struggle to come to school with all of the supplies they need. 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and snacks (small meals) in after-school programs. We also hold Saturday school where students can receive free meals.

My students voluntarily come up during lunch to receive extra assistance in any topic they need.

They volunteer to clean our classroom to ensure their space to learn is kept neat and clean. They are good kids with good hearts and I want to ensure they have all of the resources other students have. I want to create a classroom environment the students are comfortable in and enjoy coming to on a daily basis.

My Project

Students will be able to walk into a positive classroom environment with more flexible seating options and a "FAB four" section where students who have shown great academic and/or behavioral progress will be able to "lounge" during math class. The area will consist of a small area rug, a colorful lamp, and an end table. Students will be able to sit in butterfly and sauce chairs I have already purchased.

Students will also have access to the most popular book I have ever had in my math library.

I currently have five of the book "Everything you need to ace math in one big fat notebook" in my math library and there is always a waiting list for students to borrow the book. This book appeals to all of my learners and students will be able to utilize this resource for years to come!
