I teach in a 1st grade classroom at a Title I School. At our school, 77% of the the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. My class was originally hybrid this year due to the pandemic, but we have been 100% in person since February.
These kids are so excited to be back in school and to be with their friends.
They are showing compassion and empathy for each other, something that I have never seen in my 25+ years of teaching. They are so willing to learn in all areas.
My Project
One of the strategies I use to teach phonics is Orton Gillingham. My class uses a multisensory approach to help learn phonics. I am currently using whiteboards, dry erase markers, and socks to clean the whiteboards. The boards unfortunately have to be replaced year after year and I also have to purchase dry erase markers throughout the year. I am looking to use the reusable tablets I have requested to reduce cost over the next few years.
The students would be so excited to have a new interactive way of learning.
Our reading specialist has recently obtained these tablets for her small group. When the students use them in her small group, they are very engaged in the activity. These reusable tablets will also be used in my classroom to practice math skills and writing words.
