Technology is a major part of our world today, both inside and outside of the classroom. Please help my students to get two iPads and a microphone for our classroom! I am the Special Education teacher in a low income area in Brooklyn, NY. We are a Title I school. My 4th grade ICT class integrates special education students into the general education classroom/curriculum. My students are bright, responsible, energetic and curious to explore and learn new things.
In today's world, majority of young children own their own iPad in which they go home to and play on for endless hours.
Many of the students in my class do not have this luxury. More then half of the class does not have a household computer. Please help give them have the opportunity to share this technology inside the classroom.
My Project
I want my student to be able to record and create edit videos to document their learning. I want my students to use apps to reinforce their learning. One area my students struggle the most with is listening and speaking. I'm requesting 2 iPad airs and 1 microphone speaker set so that I can set up an interactive classroom. With the iPads, students will be able to listen to stories or practice listening to audio conversations to boost their listening and speaking confidence.
In my classroom, we practice listening and speaking daily using cooperative learning strategies.
In addition, students will be able to access apps that reinforce skills and enable higher level learning. An iPad helps students who are kinesthetic and visual learners open up the doors of education and individualize their learning experiences. The iPad will become a tool that will help create more authentic learning experiences in the classroom as well as build twenty first century skills that our children need in order to be successful in a quickly evolving technical world.
