This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I was hired to bring Robotics classes to our middle school students.

My classroom was an art room, and I am working on remaking it into a Robotics room and makerspace; while I've made progress, there's more that needs to be done.

Having a makerspace in the lab is an essential component of learning. Robotics is not just about building and coding robots; it's about allowing yourself to be creative, stretching your mind to think of possibilities and solutions that you may not have considered before. With a makerspace, students can expand beyond simply building and coding and can send their robots on "missions" to test how well they work, giving them a glimpse at how Robotics works outside the classroom. It allows the more artistic-minded students to showcase their talents in a way Robotics alone may not.

I'm requesting these supplies to allow us to do things like create obstacle courses with dominoes and cups, or build structures with the foam board and tubes, giving the robots things to interact with.

There are several students in our K-5 classes who walk by my classroom and peek inside every day, excited at the idea of being able to work with robots when they reach middle school. My goal is show them possible futures that they may have never considered for themselves.
