Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my most reluctant freshman students clamor for graphic novels. I teach both ESL and LD inclusion English classes. Many of general education students are reading below grade level.
Last school year there was a waiting list in my classroom for books in Jeff Smith's "Bone" series. These books are great for building vocabulary and reading stamina, but equally important my students love them! Students that I had trouble finding one book that they where willing to read were begging to take these books home to read.
So that more students can enjoy the pleasure of reading, I need more copies of Jeff Smith's "Bone" series. I would also like to expand the type of graphic novels in my library, including Neil Gaiman's popular "Sandman" series and many other single titles.
Your donation will help students realize that reading is enjoyable, perhaps convert a few into life-long readers, and give them better reading skills that will help them beyond high school.
