This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My Kindergarten students work on their counting skills every day. Practice, practice, practice helps my students to solidify their understanding of number concepts. Early learning of math skills means that we point to each object as we say its number out loud. We count how many kids are in line, how many cups we need to serve juice at snack time, how many crayons we need to complete a group poster so that every student gets just one crayon.
Having a range of colorful and fun little counting tools keeps my students motivated and engaged as they do the hard work in math of learning how to count with meaning.
Especially for my students with disabilities, the hands-on nature of these manipulatives- makes it easier for them to practice their skills. These developmentally appropriate math counters- such as little dinosaurs, tiny cars and planes, and small plastic wild animals - make math time more enjoyable. Math time is one of my students' favorite times of day. I try mightily to give my students the best materials possible in order to support their learning. Your help makes it possible for me to continue doing so.
