it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
FLIP into the future...My classroom is creative and warm invoking a feeling of family where students feel comfortable to express themselves without feeling nervous or unsupported. I am a fourth grade teacher in an extremely low socio-economic area in California. We are a public school that wears a uniform, because families want to help defer gang color clothing affiliation and save them money. My school services students that receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch, 98% of the students are on this program. We are a title I school with limited resources available to us, especially in the next years with California's budget issues. This coming year we are increasing class size and reducing many programs and resources. Of all schools, students at this type of school are being hit the hardest. There is LITTLE to NO funding for the ARTS programs.
My students are being under-serviced without arts funding for them. Their parents want them to have it "all", yet don't have the money to expose them to the arts. It is my job to educate these students and get them ready for the future. With the budget concerns of the state and school district teachers do not have the money to get the supplies that are needed to educate students. We need supplies to teach the arts standards to students, especially the performing and musical arts. Unlike other school sites there is no parent organization to help us purchase necessary resources. When given the chance to express themselves students can come to life and I would love the resources to allow them to do just this.
I need your help to get my class ready to "FLIP” into their future! These 2 hand-held FLIP cameras will be used to video student's understanding of the setting, character development, etc. Students will create their own plays (using staging, voice, acting, backdrops, costumes, etc) that will be videotaped and they will edit their own videos using a computer program. These cameras are small and easy to use. The students can use these to video their performances without the need of an adult to supervise. These FLIP cameras will help to "FLIP" them into the future and allow them to express themselves through the ARTS (an area that is SO important, yet less of a focus in schools these days). By incorporating these arts standards with Language Arts curriculum it will allow me more access to the ARTS in the classroom. This is an area the students at my school are not being exposed to outside of the classroom and I want them to "FLIP" into their future prepared and ready!
