My students need three drones to start an after school computer programming club.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Yau's classroom raised $947

My Students
It is often difficult to get my students to see math beyond performing the "correct" procedure the quickest. I hope that through computer programming, my students will be exposed to the art of problem solving involved in mathematics.
Our school is part of a network of public schools that specializes in developing a model that provides academic and social support for at-risk urban young men.
Due to the small size of our school and staff, we do not currently offer a computer programming course. However, we have found outside resources, like coding workshops at other schools, which have inspired us to start our own after school program!
My Project
My students need three drones to start an after school computer programming club. My students will be able to make very tangible connections with coding by making the drones move through different commands. They will be given challenges to get the drones to move into a certain spot or have it go through an obstacle. Eventually, students will be able to choreograph the drones to put on an end of the year drone talent show!
Computer programming is a skill that has led me on a very successful career path and this is a kind of success that I want my students to experience as well in the future.
Giving them access to this will support my students in being competitive for college and their career paths in the future.
