My Students
During this time of a worldwide pandemic, our students and families are in need of help to get the things their students need to return to school.
My students are creative, energetic, and eager to achieve.
I teach students in grades 3, 4, and 5, in a public school in inner-city Baltimore. Some of my students have been diagnosed with a disability, however, disabilities are what they have, not who they are. 90 percent or more receive free and reduced-price lunch, however, their socioeconomic status doesn't determine how far they will go They strive every day to read more and learn more about all subject areas. Their only limits are what they have yet to be exposed to. Our class will greatly benefit from these supplies to help access the curriculum and close the achievement gap.
My Project
We are all going through unprecedented times. This global Covid pandemic has made it so our school will have to begin the school year completely virtual. In order to make this a success, our students will need school supplies accessible for virtual learning that may not be in their families budget due to the negative financial impact the Covid-19 pandemic has placed on my students' families.
Many of our students and their families have been ravished by the negative financial burdens the Covid-19 pandemic has brought.
This project will supply the students, whom many have not recovered from the impact of Covid, with materials to make sure their virtual return to school is supplied with materials they will need such as sketchbooks and crayons to do art, folders to organize their math and language arts work, and earbuds to hear the virtual lessons and block out household distractions. Only by providing for this gap can we make sure our students have a chance at a successful school year.
We wish we could be with them at school, but this will make all the difference knowing they have the proper tools to begin virtually.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
