"Make a Difference--STOP-- Childhood Obesity" I'm a second grade teacher, my school is located in a high-need community. My students are visual and kinesthetic learners. My classroom students comes from homes with limited financial support.

There is evidence that certain ethnic minority populations,children in low socioeconomic status families, and children in the country's southern region (Georgia) tend to have higher rates of obesity than the rest of the population. I want to make learning exciting and life long learners. The supplies will provide the means to develop a healthier life style, Which will personally touch each of the students in a way that maximizes their involvement. The pedometers will be used on a daily basic at school. Students will be involved in observing and collecting data of the steps per day. They will be able to compare data with classmates. The students will learn that exercising can be fun and easy to do, while battling childhood obesity one step at a time.

The students will wear pedometers as part of an health awareness. The Stepping to Save Life Program will challenge students to take at least 2,000 steps a day. Today's students are not getting enough physical activities, decreased opportunities for physical activity at school (No RECESS),after school( home watching T.V.) and reduced walking or biking to and from school. My goal for each student is to increase their activity level and improve their physical health.

My goal is to create a walking program aimed at raising awareness of the obesity epidemic and cardiovascular disease. "the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years and adolescents aged 12-19 years, and it has more than tripled for children aged 6-11 years. At present, approximately nine million children over 6 years of age are considered". obese.
