Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." by Benjamin Franklin. I believe that if I involve my students, not only will they remember, but they will learn for a lifetime. Technology is the future and because this is so, I would like to incorporate it into my lessons.
With the cost of technology and the constant cuts to public school funding, it's often hard for classrooms to get upgraded technology.
My school is a Title I school. Most of our students come from low-income families, therefore many students don't have either a computer or Internet access at home. My classroom computers are very limited in number per classroom, therefore leaving me with 3 working computers for 25 students.
Because I teach very inquisitive fifth grade students who are always hungry to learn more, I would love to provide them the opportunity to expand their learning and be able to aid them in their being able to function in our ever changing world with the help of a mini iPad.
My Project
I am requesting two iPads with two protective cases so that I could be able to provide them the opportunity to expand their learning with the help of technology.
With the use of two mini iPads, my students will be able to not only read about a particular topic, but also have the opportunity to interact with it in many ways. For example, they may be able to take virtual field trips to places that would be too costly or so remote that it would be almost impossible to visit. My students can also interact with educational apps, look at videos, research information, create stories and publish them, and video themselves recreating a story. My students will be able to read novels without the need of the bulky book, and they will also be able to access the online reading app that correlates with their reading series.
Technology allows students the opportunity to open the doors to further their knowledge, not only in the core curriculum, but also it allows students to become efficient in technology.
We all know how important it is to be computer savvy, especially for the 21st century in which we live. With the help of iPads, my students will be able to experience reading like never before.
