Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students want to keep their classroom's Microbusiness as a venture that provides ads, fliers, business cards, greeting cards and photos for the rest of the school. However, we do not have the funds to replenish the ink and toner needed to produce the products.

Our school has seen drastic budget cuts where simple supplies such as paper are scarce.

We are a MicroSociety school where we emulate a society by incorporating real life learning with their curriculum. We live in a community where resources are scarce and crime and violence is high. Our district's drop out rate is extremely high. They are very excited about learning and would love to have lots of experience with technology. Our school does not have the funds to purchase these items. They are very creative and are looking forward to creating their business.

My Project

We are requesting toner and ink to be able to produce products such as ads, business cards, fliers, newsletters, and pamphlets for the other “businesses” at the school. With these materials, they will be able to get the experience of using technology and compete with students who do have access to these things. They will learn how to design many things and learn how to edit photos and other digitally made products. They will learn to create products that will allow them to develop technical skills for the future.

In communities like ours, everyday, the gap of the digital divide is widening.

Our students need to prepare for real life experiences and situations. They need the tools that will allow them compete in this fast paced global society. Our schools are falling way behind because we lack the funds to use technology that our students need to develop as competitive human beings.
