Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Looking back at my school years, I remember being hungry as a kid. But, there was this one teacher by the name of Ms. Pyet who would give out snacks during recess. Even as a child, I noticed how happy, energized and alert we became after eating some of her snacks.

I am now a PLP/CBE teacher at a underprivileged high school in Phoenix, Arizona who also gives out snacks to her students who come from low income families that cannot even afford basic necessities.

I am a credit recovery teacher with large class sizes due to the need of students catching up with their credits especially after the COVID breakout.

I also run 2 clubs at the high school: Girl Talk Club and Bro Code. Our meetings are held afterschool. The students usually stay with me until it is time for teachers to go home. Every single one of them are hungry and thirsty after a long day at school. One of the items I am asking for is an air fryer so I can buy some healthy options to make at the school for my students and club members. The table is to set up our fundraisers and monthly birthday celebrations. An example on how I give out snacks is: "Student of the week", "Student with the highest Progress" and class completions competitions. Thank you for the opportunity you are giving us teachers to help feed our underprivileged students.
