My Students
Organization is a difficult skill for second graders. Having a mailbox where students can put in daily assignments, notices, and materials helps students to successfully take home what they need to succeed.
My students are part of a public magnet school program in California.
They are gifted and high ability students who are academically capable, but often need help organizing materials. They need a consistent space where they can go to daily to store and collect assignments and materials at the end of the day.
My Project
The current mailbox center was homemade 10 years ago out of donated wine boxes and is on its last leg. The boxes are starting to split and can be a hazard to little fingers that reach in to retrieve materials. A new mailbox center will allow a safe place for students to gather and store materials for daily use. It will also aid in communication with home and build responsibility in students who will know to check their boxes before going home. This will save many trips back to school to get forgotten home assignments.
A new mailbox would greatly benefit our classroom!
Students won't have to use a rickety old center and it will benefit students for years to come. They will be able to organize materials and have a space they can feel they can take ownership of.
