This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My 1st and 4th grade students are excited to be in school every day. They are kind, thoughtful and are always looking to help one another. We are a resource classroom that provides a space for students with various types of disabilities to receive supports in ELA and Math while spending the rest of their day in a general education setting. My students are inquisitive, attentive and eager to apply what they have learned throughout the day. We are a Title I school, therefore, all materials requested serve a diversity of students while incorporating inclusivity, fostering a sense of belonging, and equality in the classroom.
We need a solid, wooden mailbox for students to store and collect their assignments, 'take home' folders, homework, important notices, etc.
Assigning each student a mailbox will give my students a sense of responsibility and ownership over their folder and home communications. They are responsible for keeping their mailbox organized and retrieving their items at the end of the day. Overall, our resource room mailbox will be a useful tool for promoting organizational skills, accountability of work, communication, and independence. The mailbox is a great support for my students who struggle with time management and executive functioning.
