This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! Their enthusiasm for learning never ceases to amaze me. They work hard every day, staying engaged with hands-on activities and games that help them practice their skills and increase their knowledge. I love giving them the opportunity. We are a low socioeconomic area and highly diverse school in Central California. Nearly all of my students' learning happens at school. Most of my students have not traveled beyond our city walls. We are a small school with a big heart!
My Project
My students need the tools to explore life at a microscopic level. Next Generation Science Standards have changed the game for our 6th-grade students. We are excited to learn life science concepts as a new standard, however, we do not have the microscopes we need to explore bacteria and other cells.
Reading about a concept such as magnification of cells is great for background knowledge, but experiencing it as a real scientist would by viewing the slides themselves will make the learning exceptional.
My students deserve to have the best learning opportunities. These microscopes will allow my students to view premade slides of bacteria/cells and make some of their own slides.
