Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, I am teaching 20 first graders in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) class at a Title I school in the South Bronx. My goal is to create a classroom that is organized, creative, and filled with opportunities for hands-on learning, independence, and growth.

The materials I am requesting will help my students strengthen their reading, writing, and problem-solving skills while fostering creativity and responsibility.

Sheet protectors will allow me to design reusable learning materials so students can practice phonics, writing, and math while learning that materials can be reused and recycled responsibly. This approach supports daily literacy and math routines while nurturing environmental awareness and care for our shared classroom.

Binders will help organize differentiated pages and individualized resources that meet each student’s needs. With color-coded sections and easy access to personalized work, students can engage with lessons that are just right for them, promoting both independence and confidence.

Oversized dry-erase sleeves will be used for interactive practice and as a creative way to display student work on bulletin boards. Instead of using disposable construction paper, these sleeves will keep projects clean, protected, and easy to update throughout the year—celebrating growth and creativity sustainably.

A Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will provide access to high-quality bilingual and differentiated materials that support our diverse learners.

As we explore our unit on tools, the book The Most Magnificent Thing will guide students in understanding perseverance, problem-solving, and creativity. Inspired by the story, they will design their own “magnificent things,” applying literacy, design thinking, and social-emotional learning.

Finally, a wireless charger will keep our classroom technology powered for centers, timers, and digital reflections.

Together, these resources will help my first graders stay organized, motivated, and confident as they build, design, and discover their most magnificent ideas.
