This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My campus is committed to collaboratively, providing purposeful opportunities for the education of the “whole” child, by motivating and developing critical thinkers who achieve at their full potential, while becoming college and career ready. The school has been an educational landmark in the southeast residential community for over ninety years. The school’s philosophy is based on the belief that all children should be provided an educational environment where students can work, play and learn in situations that are stimulating and governed by true-life experiences. My campus is a school-wide, Title I campus, which serves approximately 580 students in grades Pre-kindergarten to Fifth grade. Of that, 97.8% are Hispanic, 1.4% are Anglo-American, 0.3% are African American, and 1% other. The student population represents a lower socioeconomic level of 100% who qualify for free breakfast, lunch and dinner.
My Project
Access to these educational resources will give me the ability to select engaging activities to extend the read a louds used in the library. I will have access to phenomenal lessons which will extend the comprehension component of the read aloud, as well as, hands on activities to extend the books used in the whole group setting. These activities will also give students the ability to build independent thinkers as they complete each activity ,ensure the understanding of the read aloud and will assist the teacher in the grading process to check for mastery.
