Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Addition, subtraction, numbers and beyond! Math is one of the primary building blocks for more challenging activities that are yet to come in second grade and beyond.
My second graders are eager and willing to learn in our New York City community.
The smiles on these students' faces when they learn something new is priceless. Their brains are like little sponges. I am thankful for such kind, eager students who love to learn!
My Project
Place value is a vital second grade standard for math in New York City. Students learn more through touching manipulatives and moving them around rather than listening to a lesson written on a board. The requested base 10 block manipulatives will help them to understand numbers, which will encourage and assist them with addition, subtraction and more.
Counting money is also a very important part of second grade math. Having large coins that students are able to see clearly will help them to use money in everyday life.
Young students do not learn by just watching lessons on a board.
They learn by doing. Please give my students the chance to use math manipulatives in order to truly understand and internalize second grade math skills.
