Our school is a therapeutic day school program, the task of which is to provide emotional support and academic opportunities to children who have been unable to succeed in community school settings due to emotional, learning, and behavioral difficulties. The majority of our students live at a residential children's home and are wards of the state.
Our school runs as a trauma-informed program, aiming to help our students grow from their pasts and learn how to cope in effective ways.
Despite the challenges that our students face, they are incredible children. Their resiliency, love for learning, and curiosity are truly inspiring. I strive to make my classroom a welcoming and safe community and to help my students explore learning and grow into independent and productive citizens.
My Project
"We read to know we're not alone." I love this quote, and it almost perfectly describes my philosophy of why reading is so important for my students!
Our district provided a reading intervention program that is honestly perfect for our student population.
In order to keep our students engaged, we really need magnetic letter/phoneme tiles and magnetic journals to enhance our intervention program. The magnetic journals that we are requesting are perfect: all of the letter tiles will be magneted inside and allow for less lost materials. The color coded nature of the tiles will also help students understand word parts. Since our students are visual learners, the color coded tiles are going to be a huge benefit.
With these magnetic letters and journals, I know our students will grow tremendously in their ability to decode tough words and improve in their spelling.
