This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in the PAL program (Preschool for All Learners). All of my students have different interests, personalities, and ABILITIES. My classroom offers a lot of diversity; eight of my students have autism, one student has an intellectual disability, and one student has an orthopedic impairment. While they may be all may face challenges, they are all motivated to learn.
All of my students learn differently, while one thrives with music, the other thrives through manipulatives.
While some enjoy learning in groups with their friends, others prefer to learn independently. What all of my students have in common is, they all learn through play. They all learn best doing what they most enjoy; water table, manipulatives, coloring, reading, building, and even running.
During this difficult situation, we are being forced to adjust to (Covid-19), my students and their families which all reside in a low-income community are faced with a financial crisis that challenges effective distant learning. As I meet with my families and students daily via Zoom, I am amazed by their care-givers' dedication and commitment to show up for their kids. However, I am mainly amazed and filled with joy with my students' progress and growth.
My Project
The magnet blocks will help my students in our daily lessons. They can use these blocks to count, make patterns, build, or simply make something fun! I can work on developing language, cognitive, social-emotional, fine, and gross motor skills all while strengthening academic skills.
During this pandemic, my students will be given the opportunity to continue strengthening the skills we developed in the classroom.
They will also have the opportunity to read one of their favorite books, allowing them to recognize the letters of their name.
Both magnet blocks and books will allow my students to develop school readiness skills.
